A Visit to a Country Farm

Julie and I went to high school and college together and had plenty to talk about since both of us are stay at home moms with two kids, and she recently joined the blogging world. I was also looking forward to photographing some of the beautiful surroundings and farm animals, but alas, children can foil some of those plans. Owen was pretty shy and insisted I hold him all throughout our tour of the barn.

These are the shots I got when he allowed me to put him down for a brief second or two (or that I took with one hand hoping for the best!).

There is so much history at Julie’s place. She lives in the old farmhouse that she grew up in and currently has chickens, pigs, cows, goats and turkeys (and a turtle, bunnies, a guinea pig and more inside). Definitely seems like a lot of work, but you can tell how passionate she is about it all.

I wish I had captured a shot of her amazing farmhouse. It is gigantic and full of character. She even let me take a peek in her attic that is filled with antique treasures…swoon. I was in heaven.

Most of the pictures that I did get were in the old barn.

My two little ones were pretty nervous when we arrived and went straight into the barn.

Hazel was a little less scared than her younger brother, but both were still unsure of all of these unknown surroundings and animals that are much bigger when up close and personal.

Owen is such a timid guy when we go out, he didn’t know what to make of it all.

They warmed up a bit when they saw the baby calf.

The kids were eager to get back outside, and once they saw a little playhouse I guess the nerves wore off, so I got to photograph this beautiful peach tree.

Besides the animals, Julie also has a stand for passersby with vegetables, eggs, and more depending on the season and what they have available. I love how the outside of it is decorated with these cute planters and a burlap welcome sign!

When we went inside Julie’s farmhouse, we saw these little guys and Hazel became pretty convinced we should have some chickens of our own. Maybe one day…
