Fall Home Tour 2014
Welcome to my fall home tour! I have been anxiously awaiting this day for weeks (well months if I were telling the truth). I love fall, and I think this season makes me fall in love with my home all over again. The crisp air, beautiful leaves and feeling that autumn evokes, awakens my soul with inspiration.
Today, I am excited to be part of the 2014 Fall Tour of Homes hosted by Cherished Bliss. If you headed over from my sweet friend Danielle’s home of Finding Silver Pennies, I am so happy you came my way! We live in the small town of Mumford, NY where fall is pretty glorious right now.
If you are new here…I am so happy you stopped by today! If you are returning…you know I love having you. If you can believe it, in my seven years of blogging, this is my very first fall home tour post!
So without further ado…come on in…
My porch is fully decked out with orange pumpkins, corn stalks, and gourds. The people at the farmer’s market began to know us by name since we visited so much. (Big thanks to my mom for getting so many every time she took Hazel and Owen!)
I moved my rustic rolling cart, that normally resides out back, onto the side of the porch. (I’ll let you in on a little secret…it is my favorite thing to photograph on. If you ever see a picture with weathered, gray wood in the background, you now know what I was using.)
I kept the porch pretty “traditional” fall, but did throw a macrame owl on the front door. I think he looks pretty good there. I also put a strand of white lights surrounding the door (it’s never too early to start with lights, is it?)
Now, we will head into the living room. We recently, gave this room a bit of a makeover starting with some new paint (Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter). It is slightly darker than the previous gray, although most people probably won’t be able to tell the difference. I love it though. The white trim pops out more and it is a cozy, warm shade.
I dolled up our small entryway with some fall touches and another macrame owl (just for fun…normally it’s cluttered with coats and shoes).
And I put the little footstool and pillow below for the kiddos. They love stuff like this.
Unfortunately, your first sight when you walk into our home is a massive television. I tried to put a pretty picture on my “smart” TV for you, so it looked better than a blank, dark screen. But that TV is just too smart for me. I couldn’t figure it out π
I had started a gallery wall around the TV about a year ago, but never finished. Then when we went to paint, I decided to take it down. I might start over with a new gallery wall or just keep it simple with something above the television.
Tada! Here is our living room cleaned up! For about an hour anyways, while I took these photos. This room gets the most use in our home and is definitely lived-in and comfortable (and yes, that is an ugly baby gate on the left).
The other new addition to our living room makeover, is the beautiful shag rug that I got from Rugs USA. I am over the moon in love with this rug. You can read more about it in this post. It is really the one piece that makes this whole room come together.
I displayed seasonal touches here and there, but wanted to keep it simple and natural.
The light fixture in the far corner, is actually an old egg basket that I flipped over and took the handles off of.
On the opposite side of the couch, we have a rustic, old shelf that I enjoyed bringing some fall to.
The sweet papier mache pumpkin was made by one of my favorite online friends, Tammy from Cloth and Patina. I purchased it from her Etsy shop a few years ago. Her work and style are beyond lovely!
Over the weekend, I decided to finally make my own pouf ottoman. I had this mustard yellow sweater that I picked up at the Salvation Army last spring (mustard yellow is one of my favorite colors right after gray). Originally, I planned to make a pillow with it, but then I thought it could work perfect for this project…and it did! Although it turned into more of a “jumping platform” for my kids than an ottoman. Thank goodness we got that new rug.
It isn’t completely finished yet…need to figure out a way to finish the top (thus the books there…hehe), but once it is complete, I will share a step-by-step tutorial. (The adorable fox pillow came from Georgie Pearl Designs…I won it on Instagram!)
Now, we will move into the dining room, which has gotten a fresh look since I last shared it a few weeks back. I started to paint it bright white (but haven’t finished) and moved a few things around. I like to recycle things in my own home a lot, so if you have been here before, you will probably notice the same things used in different ways around the house.
I went for a very rustic, woodsy feeling in here this year. I even borrowed some antlers from my step-dad! I know some people don’t like them, but they have grown on me a lot, and he had plenty for me to use in my decor.
Well, there aren’t anymore rooms in the house to show you…cause...they are too messy, ha! (With all the junk I took out of these ones, so I could show them to you. Not even kidding.)
But, I did decorate my back patio, inspired for an outdoor Thanksgiving dinner (which is my dream…but never a reality because it is far too cold here that time of year), so I set it up now and we have been enjoying eating out here like it is a holiday every day. We all think it is pretty dreamy now…
Well, if you were really here taking the tour, we would head back out to the front porch, where it would probably be evening by now, so here is one more glance before you are on your way. I am so glad you came by for the tour!
And now, head over to visit Ashley at Cherished Bliss, the lovely host of this home tour event, and see her home decorated for fall!

I love the rustic look and it is never to early for lights! Where did you get the hanging owls? They are so cute!
Alice Wingerden
Good! Glad I am not the only one who likes lights! The owls were vintage finds my mom got at a yard sale. She got a giant owl collection for like $5 and gave a lot of it to me π
