It’s always fun to dream about how you could decorate a space. Especially if you could start from scratch and money was no object, right? Today, I am doing just that with this “casual midcentury bohemian” mood board for a living room space. My living room is quite a bit different, but I love styling furniture and decor in a variety of ways. Hope you enjoy this curated collection!

I am increasingly drawn to midcentury style furnishings and decor. They are finding their way into my home little by little and are now the items I am seeking out when going to thrift stores and flea markets. I have allowed my inner “bohemian” style to infuse itself into every facet of our home for the past year, and I love the two styles pulled together into one cohesive, relaxed look.

When putting together the look for this design inspiration, I started with the chairs. I love their shape and deep shade of indigo blue. I have never really decorated with blue in my own home, but certain shades do captivate me, and when I saw these chairs I was smitten. Having a pair next to each other is always a great look for a living room, especially across from the sofa. My current living room doesn’t allow for it because of size restrictions, little ones who love to run back and forth, and keeping the flow, from the front door, open through the room. In our next home that is the plan, however: pair of chairs across from sofa!

The rug and sofa were the next big items for the space. The blue and brown pattern in the rug pulls the chairs and sofa together, while giving it a laid back, boho vibe. Some rattan side tables and a pair of retro modern lamps bring balance around the sofa. I actually have two of these lamps and love them! I can’t wait to share how I have styled them in my living room with you soon.

Patterned throw pillows, on the sofa, bring in more subtle pops of blue, and the mix of patterns keeps the look relaxed and interesting.

A tree stump table makes for a great place to set down drinks between the two chairs and the Moroccan pouf a great place to rest feet or add additional seating to the space. The sheepskin rug is another touch that brings out the boho vibe.

The drum pendant has a great balance of midcentury, in shape, and bohemian, with the rope detailing.

Interesting and quirky artwork is always fun in a casual space. I love the quote on the large art print…such a good reminder, from Platypus the Wise, about being yourself: “Dance the dance you dance. Don’t dance the dance people who dance dance.” And the bigger the better with artwork, I say! It makes a great statement. I am very into abstract art, so the reproduction painting next to it was a perfect fit.

Any bohemian space is not complete without plants, and I personally love when they are put all throughout a room with several hanging from macrame or geometric planters, of course!
