Rustic Bohemian Thanksgiving Tablescape

With Thanksgiving quickly approaching and devastating events taking place around the world, I have been spending a lot of time reflecting on all that I have to be grateful for. And there is so much. It is easy to get caught up in all of the “wish I had’s” or “if only’s” and lose sight of the blessings right in front of us. The beautiful real life I have right now. My little family, our health and the love we share.

That is what I plan to do this Thanksgiving:


See all of the big and little blessings in the here and now.

One blessing I had this past year, was the ability to give my dining room a mini redo thanks to the good folks at Raymour & Flanigan. If you have followed me for awhile, you may have seen my dining room before that only ever had thrift store and vintage finds.

That worked for awhile, but those pieces had definitely seen better days. I was really feeling it was time for some big changes furniture wise, which is when Josh and I headed out to see if we might find a brand new table that fit our style.


I have always dreamed of a large, rustic farmhouse table, but lately have also been wanting one that had a modern feel to it. There were quite a few that I was drawn to at Raymour & Flanigan, but it was the Trevelin Dining Table that won out in the end!

I completely fell head over heals in love with the rustic, real wood that made up the tabletop. That paired with the sleek and straight gray legs was exactly what I was looking for. It has an aged feel to the top and contemporary feel to the bottom which means it can work no matter what decorating mood I am in.

The chairs we decided on were also from Raymour & Flanigan. The style of the Felix Dining Chairs was exactly what I had been on the hunt for. They came in a set of four, in gunmetal, when we ordered them (currently black and red are in stock). A perfect fit for the table!

(The two leather chairs were also ordered from there, but are unfortunately now discontinued.)

For Thanksgiving this year, I really wanted to keep things simple and natural for my table settings and centerpiece. The tabletop is so beautiful, I wanted to show it off, so no tablecloths or runners this time around. Just some bits of nature and candles for ambiance.

To give the table a subtle bohemian vibe, I included potted succulents and a cactus that were surrounded by Indian corn, squash, a blue pumpkin and dried yellow flowers all picked up at a local farm market.
Each place setting has a mix of vintage and thrift store dishes, a napkin tied up with twine and a small feather tucked in. I spray painted the tips copper to make them stand out a bit better against the napkins….and well…just because I am currently loving all things copper.
For this table setting, I decided to include my hand drawn plates, but just a note about those: I have read that even if you use a porcelain marker and bake them (as per instructions you can find ALL over Pinterest), they are still not “food safe” so we really won’t be doing much eating on them. Maybe just a roll or something 🙂
The only “food safe” marker I could find online is imported from Europe which you can find here. I might just have to get me one of those!
Another piece that is a recent addition to our dining room is the Sullivan Accent Cabinet. I shared it in my fall home tour last month, but have already changed up the decor on top. It is now one of my favorite spots to decorate.
Right now it has a mixture of fall touches and vintage finds. It’s also extremely useful in this space. I store my camera equipment and craft supplies for both myself and the kids….so that it’s all easily accessible whenever the creative mood strikes.
In the grand scheme of things, new furniture may seem a trivial thing to be grateful for this season, but I truly am. These are more than just objects in our home. The table and chairs bring us together for family meals and sharing our day with one another. Where we pray and give thanks to God above for all of his blessings. It’s a place for making memories and growing as a family and that is truly what matters. It really is the little things that make Thanksgiving and any day special.
