Dollhouse “Princess” Girl’s Room Reveal

Today is the final installment of Dollhouse Therapy! I have thoroughly enjoyed participating in this miniatures challenge with my co-hosts Cassie, Emy and Anu for the past few months and hope you have too! Today, I am sharing all of the extravagant details of our “princess” themed girl’s room, done to my soon-to-be-five-year-old Hazel’s specificiations. Her birthday is on Thursday, so I thought this was the perfect week to get this room finished for my own little princess.

It was definitely in need of some love!

I started by priming the whole room (it was unpainted plywood when we purchased it at a yard sale a few years ago), then painted the back wall and ceiling in “Seaside Villa” chalk paint* – the same as the outside of the house. (Full source list at the end of the post)

The side walls were wallpapered in “fancy” thick scrapbook paper.

The floor is actually scrapbook paper as well. Each sheet was ombre from light to dark pink, so I had to use two and glue them together. Hazel LOVES anything pink, so I knew she would love pink floors in this room.

The same plain wood trim was used in this room as in the kitchen and living room. Even though this room probably deserved a more decorative crown molding, I decided to keep the trim the same throughout the house.

The ceiling was adorned with a gold spray painted craft medallion and a battery operated chandelier from Miniatures.com.

The dollhouse’s dollhouse got a wee facelift also. It originally had a bright red door which just didn’t “go” in this space, so I painted it the same color chalk paint as the walls and used a gray Sharpie to emphasize the doorknob. 

The little dresser “vanity” was in pretty rough shape when we found it at an indoor flea market. Hazel really loved it though (see the “before” here). I painted it in the same chalk paint, sealed it and done.

Hazel and I made the vanity stool together (previously shared in this post), and the perfume bottles out of beads. She put an aqua fan cabochon on the wall. Jewelry components are awesome for making miniatures…there are more throughout this room.

I found a couple of gold frames at a sale awhile ago with traditional art prints in them. I took the image out of this one and replaced it with a cut out from the same scrapbook pad as the flooring. I thought it was fitting when I was working on it for Hazel…so she knows she is treasured.

I used sheer vintage fabric for the curtains, and also for the room’s pièce de résistance: the bed! Hazel really wanted it to be very “princessy,” preferably with a canopy of some kind. I found a vintage brass bed at a sale for only $4.00, and she loved it. We decided to do a crown “cornice” to hang above with the same sheer fabric draped around the head of the bed.

I made all of the bedding using scrap fabric and trim. The butterfly was a small appliqué we both decided just looked perfect in the middle.  
The rug is a vintage doily and the antique porcelain doll was given to Hazel by my mom. 
I have no idea where the plastic horse came from…just something Hazel had!
The baby doll (that I have had since I was little) got coordinating bedding for the vintage brass crib.

The gold mirror, white chest and unicorn are all from Miniatures.com.

So, that’s how the princess themed girl’s room came together! Hazel loves it and couldn’t wait to start playing with it as soon as I got these photographs done. It made me so happy to see her light up with joy seeing all these little details. She said it was “just how a princess would have it!” Mission accomplished.

I still have a ways to go to get the whole house done (5 rooms left!), but three rooms are finished thanks to this challenge! I hope I can keep the motivation on my own to get the rest of the rooms done as well as the exterior. I will post each room as it is finished in the future.
