Whimsical Halloween Fireplace Mantel Decor

Have I told you guys yet how much I am loving having two fireplaces in our new house? We haven’t used either for heating purposes yet, and only one is currently functional, but I am enjoying styling the other one with the wooden mantel above. This is the first home I have ever lived with real fireplaces. I have always wanted at least one, and now I have two!

In our previous home, you may know how much I loved decorating my salvaged mantel. I still have it and just got it moved out of storage over the weekend. I have no idea where it will end up in the new house yet. It may even end up on Craigslist, if I can’t find a space for it!

I am planning on painting the brick white very soon, which will make the décor stand out a lot more than it currently does and take away a lot of the dated look to this room. I have been getting inspired by so many painted fireplaces on Pinterest recently, so I am getting antsy. I asked my husband to help get me some paint for brick surfaces as soon as possible! If you’ve done it and have any tips, I would love to hear them! I’ll probably work on it late at night and during Violet’s naps.
I shared it here and during my fall home tour, but it is completely changed up now for Halloween! I even swapped out the rattan mirror for a salvaged tin ceiling one…for that old, haunted mansion look.retro fireplace decorated for HalloweenI never really got into Halloween decorating that much until last year, when Hazel started asking where all of our Halloween decorations were. She wanted to get busy decorating herself! We realized we didn’t have many so I started to pick up a few here and there.
This year I added quite a few more but they were mostly all from the Dollar Tree. The focal point of this vignette is the glittered black house that my mom gave to us. She found it on sale last year after Halloween. It was perfect in the center and definitely adds the fun and whimsy I was going for. I wanted to keep it cute and not scary for the little ones. If you are looking for one, I found a similar one here.

The rest of the mantel is decorated with draped black cheesecloth, a black wire tree that my husband had before we were married (I only break it out at Halloween – here is a similar one on Amazon), a little candy corn cat, stacked old books, vintage brass candlesticks with flameless candles, silver glittered pumpkins, and a couple of rubber rats that I spray painted silver. There are also a couple of mini white pumpkins, silver and black tinsel garland and a black glittered owl with glowing eyes.

At the base of the fireplace, I put a mixture of faux pumpkins and Hazel’s little “Pumpkin Patch” sign from last year. On the opposite side, I moved the branches that were previously on the mantel for my fall home tour to the bottom and spray painted them black.
We have a vintage copy of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow that I opened for display. A couple of crowsa light up Jack-O-Lantern and mercury glass candle holder finish it off.

Only one week left till Halloween! Sometimes, I wish I could get the motivation to do all this decorating well in advance and get these posts out sooner, but I guess I never really “get into it” until later in the season. Hopefully, I will get in the mood for Thanksgiving decorating soon! That will be here before we know it. And baby Violet’s birthday is on the 12th so it will be a busy November in our new home! Thanks for stopping by today and be sure to subscribe so you never miss a post!

Till next time…

So darling! Have you thought of doing the German Schmear technique on your brick? Also called German Smear. They did it on Fixer Upper on the outside brick S3. Ep 8, I like this cause you can control the amount & color of the bricks that show through and it has more depth than just painting. Although it maybe to cottage-y for your taste.
