A Season of Change
Hello! It has been awhile since I have posted and I have missed the blogging world! If you are a regular, you will notice some changes around here. First of all…”around here” has moved! I finally decided to take the plunge and move to WordPress. Something I have been on the fence about for about four years. One day, I just decided to google articles on how to do it myself and voila…here we are.
Then, I decided to add a few more changes while I was at it, like dropping my former blog name “Thoughts from Alice” and just using my own name: Alice Wingerden. Be sure to note the new web address alicewingerden.com!
If you are curious how to pronounce my last name you basically just sound it out. People are always making it sound more intriguing and complicated than it actually is ๐ We get “Winegarden” “Wintergarden” “Winderden”. All sorts of stuff! But it’s simply WING-er-den.ย
I also purchased a theme on WordPress that I really liked, made a new logo and started getting everything all set up. I still have some work to do and am waiting to see if everything with the change goes over smoothly (like making sure my subscribers from the previous site still get my posts in their inbox…it was a little complicated but I am hoping it will work).
So far I am very happy with the change. My sincere hope is that my loyal readers (and new visitors alike!) enjoy the changes as well. I really want you to enjoy this space!
Another “semi” change that is coming to my blog, is the subject matter. Life is so busy right now raising three little ones, that I want to focus on what makes me the most happy because my time for blogging is very limited. My home and interior decorating will always make me happy, but my house is seriously a mess 95% of the time.
I still plan on sharing room reveals, how I decorate for the seasons, home diy projects, etc. when I am able, but what I am most excited to share with you, is my adventures into the miniature world.
I have loved transforming our garage sale dollhouse (which you can find posts about here) and still have lots more work to do on that one.
I have also acquired a few more dollhouses in the past year: two kits that need to be built (one that is the exact same house I had as a child!) and a vintage dollhouse that my neighbors were throwing away. I had to rescue it! Can’t wait to breath new life into this one…
My seven year old, Hazel, is also very anxious to make a fairy house together. We have been saving up natural materials and making lots of plans for that for awhile.
I have had a passion for miniatures since I was a little girl and my hope is to share my love of that with you through tutorials, miniature room reveals, dollhouse makeovers, etc. At least I can keep those rooms picture perfect most of the time! In fact, I think that is one reason, I love dollhouses so much, you can get it all perfect and then just leave it that way. Sigh, wouldn’t that be a dream in real life?ย
If dollhouses and miniature aren’t your thing, and you end up being disappointed in the direction my blog heads, I totally understand, and like I said, I will still share “regular size” interior posts as time allows. I hope, however, that most of you are just as excited as me, and will follow along on my miniature escapades and enjoy these tiny transformations as much as I do. It truly brings me so much joy and I can’t wait to share these projects with you.
So, I know that is a lot of change to drop on you in one post! Let me know what you think about it all! I love hearing from you.
Till next time…

Hello Alice! I am a long time follower of your blog and love reading about what you and your family are creating and enjoy your decorating style! So glad to have you back in my “in box”! Looking forward to reading more and more!
Alice Wingerden
So glad to hear that. Thank you!!
Karen
Alice, I love the look of your new site. You have inspired me to start looking for items to start a dollhouse for my granddaughters.
Alice Wingerden
Aw I love that! ๐

Alice, I love the direction your blog is taking. As the mother of 3 girls, 11 and under, I am pretty dialed in to similar things. Love interiors, even miniature versions! I grew up with a dollhouse my father and grandfather built for my 2nd birthday, which is 5 days before Christmas, and now, it lives in my parent’s house and my daughters all get to play with it! And my middle girl is very into fairy houses/gardens – we even have a fairy door in our living room and she leaves notes for “Luna May” whenever she can ๐ Can’t wait to see where you take those dollhouses!!

Aw so sweet! And thank you for your kind words!

Can’t wait to see your new miniature stuff. I have started back into ‘Fairyland’, also! I love to make the tea cup fairy houses and gardens and I might just delve off into trying my hand at sculpting a bay fairy….don’t know how that will turn out but am excited about it. Was so glad to see your email this morn and look forward to the new blog now!
Alice Wingerden
That sounds so fun! Thanks for the kind words!

I meant to say “baby fairy” instead of bay, lol!

Love this post, of searching for ‘what makes you and your family happy’. Shared time with a child is precious and that is how this Granny got re-hooked on dolls and miniatures.
I want to ‘rescue every house I come across and eradicate every bit of pink doll furniture, lol and make them beautiful again.

Thanks so much! I am with you!
