I love a quick paint makeover. A few years ago, I picked up some inexpensive chalk paint at Wal-Mart, not knowing at the time what I would use it for. I quickly discovered it was perfect for dollhouse projects. This post contains affiliate links. I may receive a small commission for any sales made through them. Most of the furniture that we have collected for the dollhouse are pieces that originally came with it, those found at second hand shops and flea markets and those that I have saved from childhood. This little 3/4″ scale dresser is a piece that I purchased at an antique store. Here it is BEFORE: It was a bit shabby but still pretty cute as is. Hazel wanted to put it in the “girl’s room” of the dollhouse, but preferred a pretty color. That’s when I broke out the Folk Art chalk paint in “Seaside Villa” (basically mint green). I didn’t do anything to prepare the dresser before painting it…one of the perks of chalk paint. I gave it a couple of coats and let it dry. It was so simple and really cute when it was finished! I styled it up here differently than it normally appears in the dollhouse. Hazel and I have different ideas about what is “cute”. She prefers frilly, pink and fancy. Nothing wrong with that, of course, and it’s exactly how we did the girl’s room…but I like to take the pieces out and rearrange them once in awhile in my own style 🙂 The background shown here is a piece from this “Wild & Free” designer paper pad. The brass candlesticks were in a set of miniatures I received from my grandparents’ belongings after they died, the rug was a diy project with jute twine, the radiator is a piece I purchased for my own dollhouse when I was a kid, the plant was an easy diy project, and the little wooden elephant was something my husband found and brought home for me. The elephant looks like a cool piece the dollhouse inhabitants brought back from their travels to Africa (or that they may have just picked up at a local miniature HomeGoods haha!). I’ll try to do a diy post soon for how I made the jute rug. It was very simple and is one of my personal favorites of the pieces that I have made for the house.
