Custom Wall Art on Canvas

I have partnered with Photowall for this post. All expressed opinions are 100% my own. Full disclosure.

It’s not often easy for artists to appreciate their own work. We are always striving to improve, to find our style, to grow and be like those that inspire us. But do we ever stop to see the profoundness in our own uniqueness? Do we ever get to revel in the joy of our own talents, gifts, abilities, attempts?

I struggle with this. A lot. I have always considered myself “an artist” –although more disparagingly than I would describe a friend as an artist. “Oh her? She is AMAZING and so talented. Such an amazing style.”

Oh yeah but me, I’m just an artist. Whatever that means. Shrug.

I have gone through many personal struggles over the past year, including hospitalization for suicidal ideation (<—a story for another day perhaps when I am feeling a bit braver than I am right now), but I came out the other side with renewed faith and hope and love for myself. This last bit was definitely new and not always comfortable. Since then, I have been attempting to embrace who I am. And be proud of myself.

When given the opportunity to work with Photowall again (I worked with them two summers ago), I hesitated initially and considered retreating to something “safe”: someone else’s amazing work or a family photo. But no! The new and improved me was going to get my own freaking art printed because it was about time I stopped hiding it (that’s what the voice in my head was telling me anyways).

So, I took the plunge and decided on one of my own digital abstract art prints from my Etsy shop. (You may recall, I worked with Photowall before and also got one of my digital art pieces printed, but that was still pretty “safe” –it’s in a private place (my bedroom), it’s not quite as large, and few people see it.

This time I wanted to go bolder. My print Peach and Black was the winner. It has always been my favorite.

I always begin the collage process the same, cutting out shapes and images whether for physical or digital work. I cut them out of old magazines or thrifted books and then paste them together for an original collage, or scan in the cut outs to use in Photoshop. This piece was digitally arranged and manipulated but all of the components were hand cut first.

I love how easy it is to order from Photowall and how quickly the packages always arrive (even though they come from overseas!). The custom canvas framing kit comes with everything you need to quickly hang up and start enjoying your art or photograph.

The website has a quick video that shows how to wrap the canvas on the frame which is very simple. I followed along with it as I put mine together.

I haven’t decided on a final location for this piece yet, but I can tell you that I won’t be hiding it. For now, it is propped on my dining room buffet and will likely find permanent residence somewhere on the main floor.

So timid artists or creatives, let’s stop hiding our work and start showing it off. Let your talents shine! Life is too short for us to keep them hidden away.

Photowall also has many great options for getting a beautiful piece of art on your walls! You can choose from their selection of artwork, or upload your own image. You can also get wallpaper, wall murals and and posters printed. Check them out on Instagram to see more!

And they have generously offered a 25% discount to my readers now through November 15, 2021. Just enter code: alicewingerdenpw25 during the checkout process. Big thanks to Photowall!

Till next time…

I stuggle with the same thing, totally ok with calling someone else artistic but it always feels weird to say it about ourselves! This is beautiful and I love your artwork 🙂
