• Hand Painted Tree Bark Lampshade

I have another DIY tutorial for you today! It only takes minimal art skills, a vintage lampshade, seam binding and rope. My motto for this year has been “to use what I have” (within reason of course) because I have so much stuff that I want to challenge myself to see things in new and creative ways, not only to save money, but also space in our small home. If you have followed me for awhile you may recall me mentioning my “hoarders” basement a time or two. I had been wanting another lamp in the living room, and contemplated buying one, but I reminded myself of my motto and set…

  • Whimsical Woodland Deer Birthday Party

I began this post last summer and I am ashamed to say I never finished it! Until now that is. I guess I did better than with her first birthday which had a “country fair” theme. I never finished that post at all. Maybe I still will…hopefully before she moves out of the house 🙂 If you have a party to plan this spring or summer and are looking for whimsical, woodland inspiration, you have come to the right place. The whole party came together with lots of help from extended family and turned out beautifully. I have left what I had originally started writing, only added on to it. …

  • Kitchen Transformation in Progress!

Can I just tell you how excited I am? My husband and I have been living in our current home for about four and half years. We have done some upgrades to several rooms (paint, crown molding, change of light fixtures, etc.), but one room we haven’t done any upgrades to (other than new appliances) is our kitchen. The heart of our home and we have neglected it. But not anymore… My husband is off on vacation this week, and being the amazing man that he is, instead of resting up and enjoying his free time, he is redoing my kitchen. The progress so far is astounding me. I know that…

  • Early Spring Centerpiece

Last week, I set up a little centerpiece on our dining room table. I wanted it to hint towards spring but not be screaming “Easter!”. It was a simple vignette, using items I have collected through the years. I started with an old burlap feed sack and vintage vanity tray.  Followed by a collection of old blue bottles in various sizes and shapes. I have a small collection of chalkware sheep that I normally keep in the kitchen, but I thought they would be perfect for this. Plus my kids love them, so they enjoy seeing them displayed at the table. And last, but definitely not least, I put my chalkware…

  • Trendy Thrift Store Finds

I have found my style evolving a lot within the last couple of years. Blogging friends who knew me “way back when” (circa 2007-2010), will recall how much I loved everything to be white and “shabby chic”. I even had a website for a short time that I called Painted White. Which is what I liked to do with most everything in those days. While, I still enjoy a neutral palette, I am drawn more and more to bold patterns, textures and colors. I am enjoying bringing accent pieces into my home that add another dimension to the neutral background. I have also been drawn to darker things as well…

  • Spring Mantel Vignette: Homage to the Artist + a Free Printable!

Spring is a time of renewal.  Refreshing.  An awakening of my creative soul that has been going a little stir crazy staying indoors. The weather warms up and I can go outside to paint furniture or open windows and finally start painting rooms throughout my home (something I have been longing to do for quite awhile). I can stroll through my backyard to find bits of nature to inspire my creations. My children can explore and find beauty in all the life blooming around us. In honor of this season, I created a mantel vignette paying “homage to the artist”.  My grandmother was an amazing artist. Seeing her paintings never ceases to…
