ReHouse Architectural Salvage

Last weekend, Joshua wanted to visit an architectural and salvage shop in the city to see if we could find some specific pieces for our new home.

I was of course thrilled!

Neither of us had ever been there…but after seeing all that they have to offer, I can guarantee it will be one of our first stops when we are in need of something special for the house…

They were very gracious to allow me to photograph to my hearts content, so I hope you will enjoy a little tour of ReHouse Architectural Salvage

When we entered, I was overwhelmed…and didn't know where to go first.

I was falling in love with everything…

ReHouse 5

I was instantly smitten with this large architectural piece…now if only I could find a spot for it in our home?

I also thought the 'confession' sign was pretty cute…

ReHouse Architectural Salvage 2

There were many chandeliers, light fixtures and windows adorning the ceiling…

Crystal Chandelier

Old Windows

Chandeliers

I love this arched window…

Arched Window

There were rows and rows of old hardware. I could have spent hours looking through them all.

Vintage Key Plates

So many beautiful details…

Vintage Key Plates 2

And I loved these old drawers that held doorknobs, hinges, and the like…

Antique Drawers

Antique Drawers and Hardware

Wouldn't they be great storage in an art studio?

These glass knobs with "issues", as they were described, were only $2 each…

Glass Knobs

There were lots and lots of light fixtures…

Vintage Light Fixtures

This pink stove was one of the first things I saw when I came in…adorable

Signs

There were many other vintage stoves and appliances as well…

Antique Stove

Old Stoves

As well as old cabinets and cupboards pulled from kitchens…loved them

Antique Cabinets

and lots of glass door cupboards and medicine cabinets too…

Old Cabinets

There was an entire room of salvaged bathroom supplies {hopefully we will find a sink there for the upstairs bath}…and of course lots of claw foot tubs…

Claw Foot Tubs

But, I don't need one of those…since I already have one…

Or perhaps just some claw feet?

Claw Foot Tub Feet

They would make great conversation pieces…

Claw Foot Tub Feet 2

And how about this adorable antique sitz bath?

Sitz Bath

If we were rich, Renoir could have his own personal bathtub…

Sitz Bath 2

(I have been contacted several times regarding the above sitz bath. It does not belong to me and I cannot provide any information about it other than it was once for sale at ReHouse in Rochester, NY)

Something I do plan on going back for when the time is right…is a vintage mantel {or two? or three?}.

I fell in love with this white one…it would be perfect in the living room

White Mantel

And this yellow one struck my fancy as well {minus the black marble part}. I think it would be adorable in a baby's room {maybe one day}…

Yellow Mantel 2

Perhaps, paired with these wall sconces. They just need some crystals and new bulbs…

Mantel and Sconces

This one was absolutely beautiful…but sadly, marked as sold.

Cherub Mantel

I'd also like to get some old columns/porch posts and corbels in the future too…

Porch Posts and Corbels

Columns and Banister

There was a room filled with old moldings and several rows of old doors…

Old Doors

In the back we found a row of old radiators…who wouldn't love these?

Old Radiators

The detail that went into older homes never ceases to amaze me. Oh, how I wish people still cared about such things…

Radiator and Heating Grates

The main reason we went to this store was because Joshua wanted an old grate to use for a cold air return in our floor. The previous owners covered them up with the flooring {why? don't ask me}, and he thought I would really like something ornate. We are definitely soul mates.

Here is the one we found…

Our New Grate

It had to be flat and just the right size…I was the one who spotted this one. It was $95 so a bit of an investment, but we will definitely be taking it with us when we move on from here.

It is already in the floor and looks amazing! Will share pics just as soon as we get a semi-sunny day out here {seems it has been raining almost non-stop}.

We have plans to go back and get more for another cold air return upstairs, as well as to replace the current heating grates, and maybe just some for decoration? Like this one that was an instant favorite…

Heating Grates 3

Other beautiful finds, I wouldn't mind owning…

ReHouse Architectural Salvage 4

Old Blue Cabinet

Old Safe and Tin Ceiling Tiles

They have many vintage finds scattered about the store which makes it even more fun…

Vintage Finds (2)

Garden Tin

Old Windows and Vintage Dress

Vintage Slips

Well, I hope you enjoyed the tour as much as I did. I already cannot wait to go back! And if you are ever in the Rochester area it is a must see.

In other news…Joshua and I celebrate our 4 year anniversary on October 1st!

Sometimes I can hardly believe that it has already been that long, and other times, I wonder how I ever survived without him there all along. To comfort me, hold me, love me, find me important, beautiful and special…things I yearned for before I knew him. Even though I know it seems cliche…I know that our souls are connected in a way that words could never describe. He literally is the other half of me…and without him…I would be lost.

So we will be celebrating our fours years together enjoying our cozy new home and remembering the vows that we promised on that day in 2006.

********************************************************************************

Also, I have updated the look of my blog and changed the layout to show off my photographs better. This is something I have had in  mind to do for a long time but didn't think was possible with Typepad.

Once I figured it out I was thrilled! Photos to me are like the main course {my words , I suppose ,are just the drink that goes along with the meal}. I still think that I may switch to a new blog host at some point that is even more photography friendly, but I will of course update you all when/if I make the switch.

For now, I hope you enjoy the new look and larger photos…

Till next time…{will be celebrating four years with my guy!}…

What a fun post, I loved looking at all the wonderful pieces. I love to find pieces like that at estate sales. You know, before they make it to the store and the prices jump way up. (o: Glad you found the grate you wanted. I’m sure it looks wonderful in your home.

yay! i’ve been following you on google reader for months never realizing you were local!
i LOVE rehouse! heaven on earth is right!
we spent our 27th anniversary there. hours and hours and hours of wandering from room to room, touching beautiful old things & dreaming of the generations of hands that had touched them before. i totally love the pink stove. they had a row of pastel toilets lined up and i SO wished i had shot it. it was too flippin cute! spent waaay too much time going through the stacks of old photos but my husband eventually found soem hardware to keep him enthralled. we loved the old doors – aisles and aisles of comings & goings. came home with an old screen door painted a deep chocolatey brown that i was going to put in the garden to hold up a golden clematis but put up at the top of the stairs against a wall instead. i’ll have to go back next anniversary for another door. (we live due east in williamson so we don’t get to the city very often)
    happy anni! *:)

  • Your fave cousin of all time

Why have I never been to ReHouse? Doug has pointed it out a couple of times and we have never stopped in for a peek.
I can’t believe it has been four years for you and Josh. Happy anniversary! That was a fun day!
My mom and dad told me they stopped by the new house. You know my mother isn’t terribly expressive, but I think she liked it a lot! I wonder if it reminded her of our first house on North Street. I don’t think you probably have any memory of it, but it was quite old, with the plaster falling out of the walls and its old, dirt floor basement. Lee and I used to sit on the iron floor grates to keep warm while we watched t.v.
Oh, and thoughts on the color of the front door…I think I would choose a darker grey from the palate that you are painting the exterior of the house with. Might seem too “keeping it safe”, but it won’t fight with your landscaping and if you are going to do window boxes, you won’t be limited in floral color choices. Just my humble opinion!
Can’t wait to see the house!

  • Rebecca

The Happiest of Anniversaries ever to the two of you!!!
Thanks for sharing such treasures….what an amazing place ~ my favorite kinds of finds. Thinking that the large piece in your second photo would make a fabulous canopy over a bed …. just a thought. πŸ˜‰
Sending wishes of Love, Joy, and Happiness always ~ Rebecca

  • Leah C

What a great store! I would have spent my whole paycheck there. I too am looking for a vintage mantel for my home. There’s a cool salvage store in Maine that I go to, Old House Parts. Wish I lived near Rochester.
Congratulations on your anniversary. It sure sounds like you found your soulmate. I enoyed reading your loving words to your husband, it was so sweet.

  • Janean

    FAB to the bone photos!!!
alice, we used to adore going to an architectural salvage place in atlanta! you can get smitten with so many goodies and the prices are usually reasonable considering the history and craftsmanship!

  • Julie Marie

Hello Alice… I don’t know how I missed this post!I don’t believe it ever came through my dashboard… but I LOVE the salvage shop, and want every single thing in it! The register grate you got is fabulous! You know, I have lived in homes with those many times, before they were considered “treasures”… then, they were just the way things were and I always loved them… A BIG Happy Anniversary to you and Josh… your romantic dinner sounds beautiful and what a lovely table you set… I am so happy for you in your wonderful new home… much love to you, Josh and Renoir… xoxo Julie Marie

  • Debra

    Wow Alice,
I got excited just looking at the pictures all of that stuff. I know you were like a kid in a candy store. I know I would have been. I really wish I could find a really good salvage place like that here in Dallas. If there is one I don’t know where it’s at.

  • Rose

OMStars Alice….I am just beyond speechless while looking at all your beautiful pictures from your exciting visit to ReHouse Architectural Salvage….How I wish we had something this wonderful in So Cal…The few places that I have found are so beyond my budget that I walked in with a heart full of excitement & ideas and walking out looking sad and pitifully heartbroken…(my amors words πŸ™‚ I have been fortunate to find some great things at our local swapmeets that have old & “junk” sections and some wonderful freebies through our local Craigslist…I can’t wait to see all the beauty that you create & decorate in your “new” bella home πŸ™‚ Besos, Rose
