Styling an Ottoman Tray
Last week, I shared a couple of trays that were mailed to me for the Swap It Like It’s Hot challenge. I chose to keep one as is and use it for styling on our ottoman from time to time. With young children, it’s not all that practical, but it is still fun to do here and there…like oh say when the kids are napping? I shared a couple of pics of how I had styled it in last week’s post and thought I would share a few more here.
The key to pulling it all together, is layering a variety of objects and textures. For this set up, I began with a few antique books that were small enough to fit in the tray. Adding something from nature helps bring it to life. You could include a small bouquet of flowers, or like in mine, a potted plant. These succulents are some of my favorites and add a velvety texture with a pop of green.
For ambiance, I added a mercury glass votive candle. Obviously, this wouldn’t be lit with the little ones around. But when I have the house all to myself, for those couple of hours while they sleep, it’s nice.
Near the back, I tucked in a deer antler to add another element of texture. It basically captures the overall style around here: eclectic bohemian. My favorite.
