An original mixed media collage created on acid free, heavy weight watercolor paper. Materials used include acrylic paint, charcoal, gel medium, vintage book pages, found vintage ephemera, vintage buttons and an art portrait cut from a vintage book.

Measures approximately 5 3/8” by 7”.

Titled, signed and dated on the back.

This piece has 3-dimensional objects attached, so it can be displayed in a shadow box frame, a frame without glass or simply as is.

About this piece:
Depression can leave one feeling so lost and alone especially when pervasive messages such as “it’s all in your head” or “you can pull yourself out of this”, trivialize the experience. This can leave the person suffering feeling even more isolated. And yet at the same time, it is an illness of the mind, so we may wrestle with how much we can and should change on our own and how much is because of brain chemistry we have no control over. This piece explores being trapped in this mind set and questioning how much one can “will” themselves out of a dark place.

This piece is part of a series of mixed media art exploring pain, loss and healing through the unification of discarded and abandoned objects, abstract themes and concepts, and vintage ephemera.
