Farmhouse Touches in the Dining Room {a look back}
I am excited to start a new series with you where I will share “a look back” at some of things I photographed but never posted during my time away from blogland.
After the whirlwind birth of my second child when my daughter was only 15 months old, I blogged on occasion, but pretty rarely. There was so much that I didn’t have time to post back then.
The entire year of 2012 and into 2013 are a blur to me! I had two kids under two, was up to my eyeballs in dirty diapers, spit up, messy clothes, battling major sleep deprivation and utter chaos. It was a time when I focused solely on my family and my only creative outlets were decorating my home, photographing it, and doing creative projects with my daughter.
Now, that I have more “free time” (at night and when my mom comes to play with the kiddos), I think it is time I share some of these images and projects with you. I hope you will enjoy my look back posts!
I am starting this series with some interior shots of my dining room from 2012. Some of these photographs were taken in August of that year and the rest in November, so it had a bit of a fall look then.
There were a lot of rustic farmhouse touches and it was filled with my collection of ironstone pottery and burlap sacks.
A lot has changed since then. In fact, I don’t even have this hutch anymore. I purchased it in 2006, and painted it white myself. I have been learning to let go these past couple of years and felt it was time for this piece to move on. This hutch had been featured in Romantic Homes and on some popular blogs and websites. It had run its course with me, and I was ready to say goodbye.
I am now looking to get a more rustic, authentically old hutch or cupboard when I finally get around to renovating my dining room. Unfortunately, it is now the “hub” of our house with this same spot you are looking at acting as my office. It certainly does not look this pretty anymore!
The very beautiful pair of angel wings were made by Dawn of The Feathered Nest. I asked her to make them for Hazel’s room (where they normally are), but I had them hanging here for a little while back then.

Loved the look back, Alice. I was not a follower back then so it is all new to me. I so remember those days. I had 4 kids and the last three were born in a four year span. It was crazy-seriously crazy and I remember is "mom-ing". LOL- so much fun and so worth the effort and the kids are grown now and super close to each other as family AND friends! You are doing a good job and putting first things first-as you should! xo Diana

Oh droooooool!!!!! Love it! I just got to old ladders. I think it was actually one ladder someone cut in two and I am having trouble thinking of uses for them. Any suggestions? I love what you did with yours!

This is the only old ladder I have yet to find and this is all I have done with it so far (hang burlap sacks on it). I bet if you searched on pinterest you could find lots of good ideas! Thanks for visiting!

I was on a blogging break at the same time as you so I did not that you were too. I had four children under age 5 so I know those years…I was either pregnant or nursing for 8 straight years! Blogging wasn't around back then, but I definetly could not have done it. Mothering and homekeeping is more than a full-time job…its 24/7. My home never looked as lovely as yours back then! I parted with alot of things back then too that I actually regret now. That hutch is gorgeous and you painted it so beautifully. You may regret it one day, but life goes on…you make everything beautiful! And I am so inspired by your kitchen renovation right now…Oh my, it makes me want to paint our oak cabinets.
