• Early Spring Centerpiece

Last week, I set up a little centerpiece on our dining room table. I wanted it to hint towards spring but not be screaming “Easter!”. It was a simple vignette, using items I have collected through the years. I started with an old burlap feed sack and vintage vanity tray.  Followed by a collection of old blue bottles in various sizes and shapes. I have a small collection of chalkware sheep that I normally keep in the kitchen, but I thought they would be perfect for this. Plus my kids love them, so they enjoy seeing them displayed at the table. And last, but definitely not least, I put my chalkware…

  • Spring Mantel Vignette: Homage to the Artist + a Free Printable!

Spring is a time of renewal.  Refreshing.  An awakening of my creative soul that has been going a little stir crazy staying indoors. The weather warms up and I can go outside to paint furniture or open windows and finally start painting rooms throughout my home (something I have been longing to do for quite awhile). I can stroll through my backyard to find bits of nature to inspire my creations. My children can explore and find beauty in all the life blooming around us. In honor of this season, I created a mantel vignette paying “homage to the artist”.  My grandmother was an amazing artist. Seeing her paintings never ceases to…

  • Dyed Coffee Filter Floral Bouquet

For Mother’s Day, Hazel and I put together some simple “flowers” to give to all of the women we would be visiting that day (including two grandma’s and three aunts). A couple of years ago I was making a lot of projects using dyed coffee filters (there are a plethora of tutorials out there about them now, but I thought I would share this one anyway!). I wrote an article featured in Somerset Life on how to make a pomander ball using them. I had made so many back then, that I decided to make these single flowers with the left overs. This project was pretty easy for me because…

  • Mother’s Day

It’s been raining here for several days…so we brought some spring indoors last week. Hazel loves “flowders” as she calls them… These came from a beautiful tree in our backyard. Wishing you all a beautiful Mother’s Day! I am so grateful for my own mother, Janine, and all of the help that she offers me with Hazel and Owen. They love spending time with her. I am also very blessed by my mother-in-law, Cindy, who loves my children dearly and raised one heck of a guy… Till next time, ~Alice W.

  • Rustic Spring Mantel

Easter came very fast this year. Too fast for me to decorate for in fact. The other day, however, I got the urge to do a mantel vignette in honor of spring (even though it has still been snowing here as of late). I knew Hazel would enjoy some fresh new decorations… Large apothecary jars act as nests for Robin’s eggs that I purchased at Home Goods awhile back. To keep with a rustic, farmhouse feel, I added one of my favorite old scales and some wire baskets filled with eggs. I recently won a giveaway from Sandi of Wayside Treasures and she included lots of pretty things like a…

  • Farewell Dear Spring…

With the month of June just around the corner and the warmth of the sun getting stronger each day…it seems that our beloved spring will soon be on it’s way…not to visit us again until next year. In a way…it is bittersweet. While I do enjoy lazy summer days, spring always seems too short lived. Spring represents so many things to us…rebirth of the earth, regrowth of plants and flowers, refreshing our homes with the yearly overhaul that is spring cleaning… In a word…spring represents change. And for me…this year’s spring has brought many changes… My business has changed…dramatically. With my ongoing computer woes, I have had to make many changes…
