• Vintage Inspired Patriotic Book Page Wreath

    With Labor Day, just over a week away, I thought it would be a great time to give you a diy tutorial that I originally shared at Yellow Bliss Road. I made a vintage inspired patriotic wreath from old book pages, just before Memorial Day, and used it for display on the 4th of July as well. It will be taking center stage on our front door, once again, as Labor Day rolls around. This project was also featured on Country Living’s website over the summer which was quite a thrill! Like most of my projects, this one was not perfect, and I ended up improvising a bit, but that is…

  • Changes Around the House: Embracing Your Personal Style

    Our individual styles in interior decorating are always growing and evolving. For some of us, trends come and go, and we ride along enjoying them for a time and then moving on to the next…and the next…and the next. Just like fashion. Sometimes it is hard to pin point your own personal home decor style when you find your preferences changing. Do you stay in the box you have always been…or do you branch out to try something new? I can remember the first time I really “knew” my style. It was during a summer home from college when I discovered Rachel Ashwell’s Shabby Chic and Romantic Homes magazine. I…

  • Seasons of Home: Midsummer Botanical Mantel

    Welcome to Seasons of Home Summer Edition 2014! I am thrilled to be sharing a botanical mantel vignette in my dining room with you today. Be sure to visit the other talented bloggers participating after you leave here! I love changing out my mantel decor from season to season. This vignette was inspired by vintage scientific items that I have collected over the years. I have a growing collection of beakers and flasks, as well as a small microscope all purchased from thrift stores and yard sales. I used the beakers and flasks as vases for flowers and leaves picked from my own yard. Many of my succulent plants were…

  • 4th of July Porch and Wishing you a Happy Holiday!

    Fourth of July is just a few days away, so I thought I would wish you a happy holiday and share some pictures of our patriotic porch. And by “patriotic” I mean, a flag, a wreath, and a some red flowers. That counts right? My husband decided to buy a flag this year, since both of our children are always pointing them out. Our porch is typically fairly plain, so the flag and the addition of the red impatiens that he also got for us, have cheered the space up quite a bit. My front porch doesn’t have any covering except for over the doorway, which severely limits my decorating…

  • 4th of July Mantel and a Free Printable Banner!

    Today I am sharing my 4th of July mantel and have a free printable patriotic banner for you! Can you believe it is already almost July? Time sure is flying by.  This weekend we are celebrating my daughter, Hazel’s, third birthday which is on the 30th. Amidst making decorations and preparing for that, I somehow managed to put together a patriotic mantel vignette in honor of the Fourth. I decided it needed a little something extra, so I created a chalkboard style “Freedom” banner, which is available at the end of this post! For this mantel vignette, I chose to keep it light and bright with hints of red and…

  • Vintage Inspired Patriotic 4th of July Vignette {blog rewind}

    Several years ago, I used to live in a townhouse with a large entry way. I loved changing out the decor season to season, and especially loved decorating it for holidays. In 2009, I shared a post on my Typepad blog with a vintage-inspired 4th of July vignette that I set up in this space and am “rewinding” to share it again here. I filled this vignette with a variety of vintage and antique items, with hints of red and blue. I guess you could say, I tend towards more unconventional items to include in my holiday vignettes. I love thread spools (as shown in my Valentine’s vignette from early…
