Master Bedroom Color Palette and Inspiration Pieces

Hey Friends! I’ve been working on getting our master bedroom decorated since we moved into our suburban colonial a couple of years ago and have made some decent (albeit slow) progress. Today, I wanted to share the color palette I decided on and inspiration pieces that helped guide me.

I made these two mood boards in the Over app (which I am loving!) to show you the images from my previous posts that are inspiring me and colors I am gravitating towards for the full room design.

The post contains some affiliate links. I may receive a small commission for any sales placed through them, but the cost to you does not change.

Before I get into all the details, I thought I would show you what we had to work with when we moved in:

Basically just a typical colonial master bedroom with a (smallish) full bathroom. Two windows on two different walls. Old carpet and double door closet (which fits both of our clothes unlike our last bedroom…yay!).

We decided to remove the carpet within the first week of living here. It had a very strong smell to it that can only be described as a mixture of grandma’s perfume and “old funk”. Having it removed made a huge difference, and the hardwoods were, thankfully, in good shape underneath.

We didn’t paint right away because I wasn’t settled on a color, so we just set up the furniture and lived with it like this for about a year. It looked like this for quite awhile:

This wasn’t my favorite layout though because I didn’t like how the furniture fit with the windows and doorway. Eventually I wanted to try the bed on the adjacent wall, but didn’t end up liking having the window off center. I left it for awhile this way until I measured and realized the bed could possibly work on the far wall with the window centered behind. So that is the current set up. No pictures yet, but they are coming in a future post.

The main inspiration piece for this room is the pink Turkish rug that I used to have in the living room of our old house. It was a shade from this rug that helped me decide on a paint color for the walls.

We have since painted the walls a very pale blue/gray by Behr called Keystone Gray. Although I would definitely say it has more of a blue hue than gray in person. We painted the trim and doors bright white. This alone made the room really start to feel like our own space in a brand new house (even though this place was built in 1971 and hadn’t been updated since about then).

I plan on keeping the same bedding for now, although I do have this set from Etsy on my mind for the future. I just love that cinnamon brown color so much. Beautiful, right?!

For now, I will stick with the matalasse bedspread, faux fur pillows and my favorite kilim lumbar pillow.

I am going to stick with all of the same furniture from our last bedroom makeover in our old house. This post shows was how it looked right before we moved out.

Here is a small glimpse of our Angelo Queen Headboard with the new paint color on the walls:

The nightstands are “Portland” by Zuo. The lamps are by Kathy Ireland and can be found here.

I talked about my antique vanity in this post. It will definitely be staying along with my $20 yard sale dresser find.

As for what will be new to the space, I plan on bringing in some of my own artwork like this print (available in my Etsy shop). This will bring in more of the accent colors I love.

And I have been saving these framed antique prints for a long time just for this space. These are very special to me because they belonged to my grandmother and were in her living room for many, many years. I received them after she died.

So that’s what I have so far. I hope you enjoyed a little glimpse into the inspiration process for how I plan on bringing our master bedroom altogether. The final touch that I haven’t yet finished is curtains. Once those are in place, I will be very excited to share the final room reveal with you!

Till next time…stay safe and be well!
